‘Jailed gang leader behind car bombing’

first_imgWhile lodged in Berhampur circle jail in Odisha, a criminal gang leader allegedly masterminded the bombing of a car at Lanjipalli Square on July 8 in an attempt to kill his rival.The matter came to light after the police arrested nine people on Wednesday in connection with the bombing, which left four people injured. The police said that a probe has proved that the bombing was the outcome of a rivalry between two criminal gangs. Among the injured was Sushant Bisoi, prime accused in the murder case of criminal gang leader Rabi Behera alias Chicken Rabi on January 1, 2010. The other three injured were associates of Sushant.Sushant had recently got bail after spending eight years in jail.Berhampur Superintendent of Police Pinak Mishra said that a probe has revealed that Sunil Behera, once an associate of Chicken Rabi, was the one who planned the bombing while behind bars.Further probe“We have decided to take Sunil in remand for interrogation and further probe,” said the SP. Four special police teams had been formed to track down the men involved in the bombing incident. Among the nine arrested are two youths who hurled the bombs at Sushant’s car. The police said that two others involved in the incident are absconding. While three bombs were thrown at the car, the police had recovered another four live bombs from the spot.last_img
