Stay on target Forget Will and Grace. Throw Roseanne in the dumpster. And pour one out for the dream of Seinfeld2000. The only 90s normcore mainstream grown-up sitcom reboot you need to know about is the return of Frasier. Yes, Frasier, or The Big Bang Theory but for snobs instead of nerds and therefore way better. News recently broke that star Kelsey Grammer is accepting pitches for a possible reboot of the beloved Cheers spin-off, and we’re (kind of) stoked.Like its parent series, Frasier was a legitimately good show. Yeah it’s kind of a meme thing now (and this post isn’t helping) but to me I just think that’s the internet having fun with something so divorced from typical dork garbage. Years ago we even kicked around the idea of Frasier Fridays here on Geek. So we’ve got a lot of love for tossed salads and scrambled eggs around these parts, and since concrete details for the potential Frasier reboot are pretty much non-existent, here are some of our highbrow ideas. ‘The Office’ Leaves Netflix in Latest Streaming War ShowdownSDCC: Everything is Fine For Season 3 of The Good Place Frasier Hosts a Podcast!Frasier Crane hosts a psychotherapeutic radio show. So shifting him to a self-help podcast host in 2018 is so depressingly obvious that several of us in the office independently came to this conclusion. It’ll be like that Alex, Inc. show but with a character people know about. Get ready to hear Frasier awkwardly use Skype and read ads for Blue Apron. It’s either this or that Frasier Snapchat pitch from The Ringer.Frasier is #NeverTrump! One way or another the Frasier discourse will have to deal with Kelsey Grammer’s unfortunately conservative politics. He doesn’t seem quite as out of his mind as, say, Roseanne Barr, but the dude did try to start his own right-wing TV channel. Our suggestion on how to handle this, and make the show topical in this political climate, is make Frasier the kind of Republican who hates Trump’s vulgarity and voted against him in the primaries, but cares little about Trump’s actual cruel policies.Frasier Doesn’t Care About Continuity! The original Frasier series was set after the events of Cheers when Frasier moved from Boston to Seattle. And it acknowledged parts of Frasier’s life established in that show like his relationship with his ex-wife Lilith. But Frasier isn’t a comic book movie, so don’t bog down this reboot in callbacks and continuity. Nerds care about that, not Frasier. This isn’t The Frasier Awakens or Frasier: Legacy. The one exception we’re willing to make is finally having Maris appear on screen.Frasier Goes to Europe! One detail from these Frasier reboot plans is that Frasier would once again move to a new city. We suggest take Frasier out of the US and move him to Europe. There he would encounter a whole new level of aristocratic snobbery that makes him look like an American slob orc by comparison. This could also work nicely with his #NeverTrump politics as he insists to Europeans that while he is Republican he also can’t stand that orange idiot, but no one would buy it. Frasier dealing with hot-blooded Mediterraneans and soccer hooligans on his podcast could be a lot of fun.Frasier Sings!I don’t know why it took me so long to realize that classic Frasier banger “Tossed Salads and Scrambled Eggs” is actually sung by Kelsey Grammer himself. But since that is the case Frasier should sing more! Obviously they should remix the original theme, but Frasier in general should be singing more songs.Frasier Becomes a Cartoon!A different way to go with a Frasier reboot is make it a primetime adult sitcom. The Simpsons episode where Sideshow Bob’s life basically became Frasier, complete with brother David Hyde Pierce, is arguably the best Sideshow Bob episode. And it’s not like animated Frasier would be any worse than modern Family Guy.Frasier Doesn’t Happen!Maybe there just shouldn’t be a new Frasier. The irreplaceable John Mahoney (Frasier’s father Martin Crane) passed away earlier this year. Yeah you could do a touching emotional beat with his empty chair, but maybe just don’t do it at all. Not everything old needs to come back, not even the great Frasier. If you must build out the larger expanded Cheers universe, why not just do a Cheers crossover with The Good Place using Ted Danson as supernatural nexus point.Let us know what you like about Geek by taking our survey.
