first_img Share LocalNews Discover Dominica Authority News Update for the week ending Friday October 7, 2011 by: – October 7, 2011 **Discover Dominica Authority to participate in Caribbean Week of Agriculture Trade Expo**Discover Dominica Authority will be an exhibitor at the Caribbean Week of Agriculture Trade Expo from October 12 – 14, 2011. The Authority will use this opportunity to promote the I Am Dominica campaign and the health and wellness sector. Services offered by the sulphur spas at Wotten Waven and other community tourism groups which cater to the health and wellness sector will be highlighted. The booth will be open to persons wanting more information and paraphenialia on the I Am Dominica campaign and other activities offered by tourism service providers.**New ferry service for Cabrits Cruise Ship Berth **Dominica will receive a new ferry service commencing October 13, 2011. SAS JEANS fast ferry service, a subsidiary of SAS L’Express des Iles will begin callling at the Cabrits Cruise Ship Berth this month. The vessel, Liberty, will arrive in Portsmouth from Point a Pitre, Guadeloupe on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays with onward voyage to Saint Pierre Martinique. SAS JEANS Liberty will travel from Saint Pierre, Martinique to Portsmouth on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The vessel can accommodate up to 400 passengers and this new service is expected to result in increased visitor arrivals from Guadeloupe and Martinique. **Dominica Festivals Committee launches online store**The Dominica Festivals Committee has recently launched an online store where patrons and lovers of the festival can purchase event merchandise online from the newly launched WCMF internet store. Products offered include t-shirts, hoodies, tank tops, hats, mugs, bumper stickers, iPod cases and much more. Each product is branded with the Festival or Independence image and many of the products also feature designs that highlight the landmark 15th year of the World Creole Music Festival. In addition to the already created designs in the store, anyone making a purchase can customize each and every product by adding their own text (such as a name or phrase) and/or images.To bring this unique and innovative online store to patrons in Dominica and around the world, the Dominica Festivals Committee collaborated with LinkQMedia, a marketing and consulting company founded by Chester Wilkins of Pointe Michel. Wilkins says the online store is an opportunity to further promote and brand the event on a truly international scale, while also offering customers quality products that will be mementos of the festival for years to come.” The custom store is located at**World Creole Music Festival Radio contest in Martinique and Guadeloupe**Dominica’s World Creole Music Festival will be promoted on Trace FM in Martinique and Guadeloupe. The listening audience is between 15-30 years and they will be given an opportunity to win a trip to the 15th World Creole Music Festival. On air promotion of Dominica will be done from October 10 – 21 with the contest being held on October 14 and October 21. The winner from Guadeloupe will be accommodated at La Flamboyant Hotel while Elegant Suites will host the winners from Martinique. Both properties will be featured on Trace FM’s website and Facebook page. Additional promotion of the Festival on RCI and RFO is ongoing in the neighboring islands. **US journalist to visit Dominica**Discover Dominica Authority will be hosting journalist Laurie Heifetz of the publication which is circulated in the US state of New York. Laurie and photographer Richard Murray will be on island from Sunday Oct. 9 – Thursday Oct. 13, 2011. During this time Laurie will be exploring the many attractions on the island with an interest in the wildlife and the Kalinago culture. The resulting article will inform residents and visitors to New York “Why they should plan a vacation to Dominica”. The New York Resident is a weekly publication with a circulation of 250,000.**MV Silver Explorer to make inaugural call at Roseau Cruise Ship Berth**The MV Silver Explorer will make its inaugural call at the Roseau Cruise Ship Berth on Thursday October 13, 2011. The ship has a capacity of 132 passengers and 117 crew. Local agents are HHV Whitchurch and Co. Ltd. Dominica expects three (3) more new calls for this cruise season, 193 calls in total, and 297,299 passengers. The 2011/2012 cruise season will run through April 2012.
