Phish Is Currently Finishing Up Their New Studio Album With Producer Bob Ezrin

first_imgOf course, drummer Jon Fishman has been in Philadelphia, PA for the last two days, helping out the Bernie Sanders campaign. This doesn’t preclude Anastasio from working on some guitar overdubs or any additional tracks that he might need to record by himself. According to Relix, however, Fishman said that “The new album will mostly comprise of songs Phish fans have not yet heard… despite the band debuting several new songs on tour in 2015.” He also said that they’re mostly finished recording. We can’t wait! During Phish’s three-night stand in Mexico, guitarist Trey Anastasio let it slip that the group was planning to work on a new album in the few months’ time until summer tour. While the recent appearance of Mike Gordon, Jon Fishman and Page McConnell at a recent Kung Fu funk concert in Nashville, TN was certainly indication that the band was working together, today we have some more official word on the project.According to a post from Frank Brothers Guitar Co., Anastasio is pictured playing one of the company’s prized guitars in Nashville. Furthermore, the post says that the guitar itself belongs to Bob Ezrin, the famed producer who worked with Phish on the Fuego album. Ezrin has worked with Velvet Underground, Pink Floyd and more in the past, and, as we recently learned, he really doesn’t like Kanye West.Check out the post below:last_img read more

Lost Beatles Recording Found 52 Years Later

first_imgA family was recently cleaning out their attic when they stumbled upon a 7-inch vinyl of the only known recording for “It’s For You” sung by Sir Paul McCartney. The song was co-penned by McCartney and John Lennon in 1964 for their dear friend and English singer Cilla Black. The voices were tracked separately, with McCartney sending his demo to Black for reference. The demo was apparently lost forever, until Black’s family found the 7-inch Dick James demo disc in a brown paper envelope a solid 52 years later. It is now being put up for auction, and is expected to go for £15,000 and £20,000. Wow! You can listen to Black’s version of the song, “It’s For You,” which earned itself No.7 in the UK during its release in July of 1964.[via CoS]last_img

The second show continued that trend, with the band busting out “Sleepy Monkey” in the first set after a gap of 211 shows. Since the last time it was played was 2013, this marked the first-ever performance of the song by drummer Duane Trucks, who joined the band in 2014.Panic brought a number of classic tunes to Pensacola for the finale, opening up the show with “Old Neighborhood > Makes Sense To Me” and keeping the energy high throughout. The concert also featured some great jamming out in set two, including a great sequence of “Airplane > Drums > I Walk On Guided Splinters > Honky Red.” To bid fans goodnight, the band broke out into “Who Do You Belong To?” in the encore and finished up with a rendition of Blind Faith’s “Can’t Find My Way Home.” John Bell handled the vocals with a passion.last_img read more

Watch Gov’t Mule Jam With Ron Holloway Throughout Last Night’s Show

first_imgLast night, Gov’t Mule made their way to the Innsbrook After Hours at The SERVPRO Richmond Pavilion in Glen Allen, VA, carrying on their fall tour with some rock and roll energy. The band called on the great saxophonist Ron Holloway to accompany them throughout the night, as Holloway sat in at various points during the setlist. Considering the lengthy history between Holloway and Mule, the musical chemistry was at an all time high. After a few songs to get Mule warmed up, Holloway first joined in on “Sco-Mule,” which included teases of “Oye Como Va” and “Les Brers In A Minor.” Holloway would return, but not before the band brought out a cover of ZZ Top’s “Just Got Paid,” as well as some more Mule classics. Holloway returned for the end of the show, including a “Blind Man In The Dark” that featured a cover of The Doors’ “Riders On The Storm” sandwiched inside, as well as a show-closing rendition of “Soulshine.”Check out some great videos from the show, courtesy of Got Mule? on YouTube. Maynard James Keenan Starts Working On Vocals For New Tool Album

first_imgAt this point, we’ve all seen the periodic updates on Tool’s follow up album to 10,000 Days (2006). At times discouraging, at other times encouraging, progress on the new Tool release has been inching along for the past few years. Yesterday, however, fans got some reassuring news from the band’s official website. In an update posted by the Tool webmaster, it seems that the band has linked up with their vocalist, Maynard James Keenan, to start work on vocal tracks. Read the post below. In speaking with Danny [Carey, drummer] last night, he told me that the band has temporarily MOVED some of their gear into a larger space (across town) where MAYNARD is working on VOCALS for some of the new Tool material. I’m sure that he has already been doing this to some extent, but now he has more room to breathe and a better vocal booth.Generally speaking, adding in vocal tracks typically comes at the end of a recording process, suggesting that the band might be nearing completion on their long-discussed new work – however, that is purely speculation. It is certainly reassuring to learn that Keenan is involved with the session, as the singer recently announced a tour with the newly reunited supergroup, A Perfect Circle. That band has plans to release new music, too.last_img read more
