DONEGAL U14 GIRLS BOOK PLACE IN ALL-IRELAND FINAL

first_imgDONEGAL’S U14 girls footballers upset all the odds by booking their place in the All-Ireland final with a four point win over favourites Roscommon. The Donegal girls will now represent their county and Ulster in the All-Ireland B Final against Tipperary on July 4.The team went in against the Rossies as underdogs at St Aidan’s GAA Club grounds in Bawnboy, Co Cavan, on Saturday. Playing against the breeze in the first half, Donegal not only contained their opponents, they led from the start and took a two point advantage into the break, Moville’s Kate McClenaghan hitting a lovely goal. And the same player netted again in the second half just as Roscommon were beginning to threaten.Donegal led by 7 points with ten minutes to go – and then Roscommon began to dominate. But the Donegal defence – with keeper Naomh Conaill’s Bronagh Gallagher in fine form – restricted their opponents’ chances to points; with pressure from the defenders forcing a number of wides. Donegal battled to the final whistle to win 2-11 to 0-13.Bronagh Gallagher, Naomh Conaill.Clodagh Skelly, Moville.Ellie Barron, St Mary’s Convoy.Mary Martin, Glenfinn.
