Syracuse’s comeback attempt falls through in 11-10 loss at No. 6 Northwestern

first_imgAs Taylor Gait cleared the ball with about 2:30 left in Syracuse’s game against Northwestern, Wildcats attack Kara Mupo swung her stick, just missing Gait’s head. The missed check was enough to draw a yellow card, which gave the Orange an extra player and a chance to tie the game. SU worked the ball around until Kelly Cross promptly sent a high shot at goalie Bridget Bianco, who saved it.“We didn’t finish our shots,” SU head coach Gary Gait said. “So when we had opportunities to make plays, we didn’t make one on the offensive end.”The save ended the Orange’s last attempt at a comeback and No. 5 SU (8-3, 1-1 Atlantic Coast) lost 11-10 to No. 6 NU (5-2) in Evanston, Illinois on Sunday. The Orange squandered its last chances to tie the game. Mupo, who scored five goals, led NU past the Orange in the first half and provided an answer to SU’s threats.“We couldn’t quite get to that tie situation and battle back. We kept making our runs and getting a couple goals,” Gait said. “We just need to try and continue to make shots and get back to that next level. We just didn’t get that done today.”AdvertisementThis is placeholder textAfter playing to a 3-3 tie in the game’s first 10 minutes, NU scored three goals in three minutes to temporarily pull away from the Orange. With the score 6-3, SU recovered with two goals in a little more than a minute. But Mupo found holes in the Orange’s defense and rebuffed SU’s comeback twice. Finding herself all alone against SU goalie Kelsey Richardson with 12 minutes and two minutes left in the first half, Mupo ripped two goals past Richardson, the latter of which gave Northwestern its 8-6 halftime lead.In the second half, the teams traded goals until Cross cut NU’s lead to 11-10 with 9:50 left. But after an SU timeout, attack Kailah Kempney threw the ball out of bounds on the ensuing restart.“We scrapped, we gave ourselves a chance,” Gait said. “We had at least three chances to tie the game and we didn’t get it done.”With 5:24 left in the game, Cross intercepted an NU pass and SU successfully cleared the ball. As Syracuse passed the ball around, the Wildcats were called for a three-second violation. Riley Donahue took the Orange’s free position and fired it high. Bianco cleanly saved it and cleared the ball. The score held through NU’s final game of keep-away.“It was a tough game,” Gait said. “… We just came up short at the end.” Comments Facebook Twitter Google+ Published on March 22, 2015 at 5:19 pm Contact Chris: [email protected] | @ChrisLibonatilast_img read more

Buoyed by cup wins, PSG resume Ligue 1 title march

Neymar was on target in both of those victories but the league’s leading scorer Edinson Cavani was absent after returning late from his Christmas and New Year break back home in Uruguay.Argentine Javier Pastore was also overlooked for Wednesday’s outing after returning late from his holiday with both players talked to about their tardiness by coach Unai Emery.PSG captain Thiago Silva raised doubts about Pastore’s future at the club when he said: “I believe Pastore told the club he wanted to leave but in the end they couldn’t reach a deal.”Pastore for his part strongly denied in an interview with Yahoo Sports from Argentina at the weekend that he wanted out.“I love Paris and I love PSG,” said Pastore, whose arrival in 2011 opened the floodgates to a host of talent that followed him into the club.Monaco’s Thomas Lemar (L) fights for the ball with Nice’s Jean Michael Seri during their French League Cup match, at the Allianz Riviera stadium in Nice, on January 9, 2018 © AFP/File / VALERY HACHE“Believe me I’ll always be loyal to this club.”With next month’s heavyweight Champions League date with Real Madrid looming Emery’s side visit Nantes enjoying a nine-point lead over defending Ligue 1 title-holders Monaco and Lyon. And given that Nantes haven’t managed to better PSG in Ligue 1 since 2005, the Qatari-backed visitors are on target to add another three points to the 50 they have already banked.– Falcao concern –PSG are not playing until Sunday night which gives Monaco the opportunity to reduce that gap for 24 hours at least with victory at Montpellier on Saturday.Leonardo Jardim’s team resume league duties also having secured their ticket to the League Cup last four as goals from Thomas Lemar and Adama Diakhaby lifted them to a 2-1 defeat of Cote d’Azur rivals Nice on Tuesday. But they look set to be without their captain, Radamel Falcao, who is recovering from a thigh injury.“You have to be careful with a thigh because this sort of injury can quickly lead to six weeks off,” cautioned Jardim who may also be without Guido Carrillo.Multiple former champions Lyon host second from bottom Angers.Under performing Bordeaux meanwhile approach their trip to Troyes boosted by an unusual show of support.Jocelyn Gourvennec’s side, precariously placed one point above the relegation zone, trained on Friday watched by the club’s workforce who left their desks to give the team a much needed boost.Midfielder Jeremy Toulalan said: “It gave us pleasure because at the moment we aren’t getting a great deal of support.“I’ve been at quite a few clubs but this is the first time I’ve seen anything like that, it warms the heart.”Fixtures (all times GMT)FridayStrasbourg v Guingamp (1945)SaturdayRennes v Marseille (1600), Caen v Lille, Dijon v Metz, Montpellier v Monaco, Nice v Amiens, Troyes v Bordeaux (all 1900)SundaySaint-Etienne v Toulouse (1400), Lyon v Angers (1600), Nantes v Paris Saint-Germain (2000)0Shares0000(Visited 2 times, 1 visits today)last_img read more

He and his business partner, Cathryn created the Self Journal for themselves as a tool to help them run multiple businesses. When they did and began to realize the power of what they’d created, they decided to launch the Self Journal as a Kickstarter campaign – and were fully funded within 28 hours. When Anthony first saw their video he was blown away and bought his own Self Journal immediately. You can hear about this productivity tool, why it’s different and ultra effective, and how you can get your own free PDF copy, on this episode of In The Arena.Applying a New Daily Productivity Formula, with Allen Brouwer – Ep 89 @BestSelfCoClick To TweetPart of Allen’s Productivity Formula: The 13-week goal-setting roadmap. One of the ingenious things that make the Self Journal so helpful is that it provides a 13-week framework by which anyone can accomplish any goal. That may sound outrageous, but keep reading. The premise is that most people procrastinate and never accomplish their goals because they set too large of a time frame for its completion. By crunching the timeframe into just 13 weeks, action is required every day – and you’ll be amazed how quickly significant steps can be taken. Listen to how Allen describes the process to discover how you can make use of it, on this episode. If you didn’t do something brag-worthy, you weren’t very productive ~ Anthony IannarinoOne of the markers Anthony uses to gauge his own productivity is whether or not he did something he really wants to tell other people about. Was there an accomplishment in your day that you are excited about? Did you reach a marker or milestone of some sort that has you jazzed? If so, you were undoubtedly productive. If not, you probably weren’t. You can hear Anthony discuss this concept with his guest, Allen Brouwer, co-creator of the Self Journal on this episode, so be sure you make the time to listen. If you didn’t do something brag-worthy, you weren’t very productive ~ Anthony Iannarino @BestSelfCoClick To TweetDo you write down your goals?
