Genius axes 68 jobs with closure of Hull factory

first_imgGenius Foods is to close its production facility in Hull with the loss of 68 roles – just months after announcing another 115 redundancies across the business. The company said a drop in production volumes following the decision by some of its European customers to switch to own-label lines had made operating the Hull site “unviable”.News of the closure comes just months after Genius – which currently makes own-label and branded lines – announced it was to become a purely branded business, a move that would result in 115 workers being made redundant. It plans to end production of own-label lines by the end of this year.A total of 156 positions are being lost across the business, as 27 roles are being created at the Genius production site in Bathgate, West Lothian, which will now supply all its export customers.“We fully understand the shock and disappointment of this announcement for all of our employees,” said Genius Foods’ chief executive Jeremy Bradley. “It has been necessary to respond to the change in activity at Hull.”The company said it will provide a “comprehensive support package” for affected workers, with local outplacement assistance and retraining, as well as opportunities to relocate within the business.“The priority of the entire Genius team is to do everything possible in the coming weeks and months to support the hard-working and dedicated employees at the site,” added Bradley.last_img read more
