World Cup 2019: Wives and family not allowed to travel with Pakistan players

first_imgPakistan Cricket Board has banned the wives and family members of the national team players to travel with them throughout the duration of the cricket World Cup 2019 in England and Wales, according to reports.Pakistan cricket team members will have to make their own arrangements for their family members who wish to accompany them during the showpiece event, according to a new PCB rule which has been levied to ensure that the players maintain their focus on the bigger task at hand, which is to reclaim the World Cup trophy which they had last won in 1992 under Imran Khan’s leadership. The new policy is applicable for all Pakistan players barring Haris Sohail who has been allowed special dispensation on personal grounds, according to ESPNcricinfo. The wives and family members of the players were allowed to travel and stay with them during the recently-concluded one-day international series in England which they lost 0-4.Interestingly, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had also issued a similar rule for the Indian team members with a slight alteration. The Indian cricket board has allowed the players’ immediate families to spend just 15 days with them during the course of the month-and-a-half-long world event. For the first twenty days, from the time Team India left for London on May 22, players won’t have their WAGs’ company. Subsequently families can come over for fifteen days when feasible after the first 20 days of the tournament.India captain Virat Kohli had earlier sought BCCI permission to allow WAGs to be with the players any time during the course of the World Cup. But he too had to eventually fall in line with the new policy laid down for the World Cup.advertisement”The top team management has discussed about this 15-day provision and are on the same page on this arrangement,” a BCCI official confirmed. The WAGs of Indian cricketers are also not allowed to travel in the team bus but in a separate bus or private transport as they desire. All the players will be travelling together in the team bus but not with their partners during internal tour travel unlike the last India tour of England.More than half the Indian side picked for the World Cup is married and WAGs have been travelling with the players on overseas tours as per the BCCI’s past rules. Also Read | Such losses are irreparable: Sachin Tendulkar condoles Asif Ali daughter’s demiseAlso Read | It’s just another game you need to win: Kohli on India vs Pakistan tie in World Cup 2019Also Read | We should not have any excuse now: Afridi on Pakistan’s chances in World Cup 2019last_img read more
